51: Christen Press

Press began the year embroiled in a tug of war after being traded to Houston Dash. The USA forward never played a game for the NWSL side and instead opted to join Gothenburg, in Sweden, where she would score four league goals before joining Utah Royals. She only scored two more goals there, often finding herself played out wide, and overall it was hardly the finest season of her career. Now she must fight to ensure she is part of Jill Ellis’s squad for the World Cup, having mustered only a couple of goals for the national team in 2018.

Laura Harvey, Utah Royals manager:

“Christen is a natural goal scorer who given the opportunities you always believe she will score. She also has a great understanding of the game and wants to improve her game technically and tactically all the time. She has a good range of passing which has elevated her game in recent years and shown that she can play in multiple positions and not only be a goal scorer but a creator of the opportunity as well.”
