A Spurs fan looks back in anger in Fight FOUR It!
squeezed two past Hull. Liverpool dominated against rivals Manchester United and Arsenal held on to a 1-0 victory against North London rivals Spurs.
Points were lost and won in the battle of for the title and it has blown wide open once again. Liverpool are beginning to show they may just have the bite to sneak it this season and capitalise on the mistakes caused by their rivals.
This is what the table looked like week ending 15.04.2014:
I’ve gone back in time to see what the Premier League standings were like on this very week for the past three years. I want to see how the table was back then – at this stage in the season, to see how the teams have progressed throughout.
2012-13
At this point last year it was pretty much a finished title race with Manchester United, in the final Ferguson days, running away with the league. Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham seemed to be battling for second place. This whole top four makes a Spurs fan sad as it shows us in third place and we couldn’t even get fourth. This also goes to prove that the season, with eight or so games left, is far from over. Points can easily be dropped and gained and teams can capitalise on this.
2011-12
The 2011/2012 season was the season that ended epically. We all remember Aguero’s last minute of the season winner. At this point of the season two years ago it looked like a two horse race between the Manchester teams. Third and fourth place was a two-way battle between the two North London teams. Again, look at Spurs! Third again at this stage of the season. We all know that season Arsenal pipped them to third and Spurs settled for fourth, only for fifth placed Chelsea to take away their Champions League spot after they won the final against Bayern Munich. In my opinion, the most heartless thing the Premier League and FIFA have ever done. This Spurs boy has never been the same since that injustice.
2010-11

Oh look! No Spurs!! In the 2010/2011 season it seemed pretty close between the top four, but not as close as it could be. Arsenal seemed to be on the trail of United but history says Arsenal had to settle for fourth at the end of this season. City and Chelsea battled hard for the title only losing out by nine points(!) It seems United wrapped up the title quite easily in the end.
Final thoughts…
So they were the league standings at this stage of season from the past three seasons in the Premier League. It goes to prove that this season is the most open between four teams than it has ever been, but still consists of the same teams, give or take Spurs and shockingly the current champions, who have always been involved.
There aren’t many games left and this is where the season can change, as has been proved in the previous seasons, and teams can change positions very quickly, especially with some of the big games remaining in the current campaign.
And what about Spurs? I will be honest with you all, as a Spurs fan, this whole post has depressed me and left me wondering what keeps going wrong.
So what do you think? At this stage of the season can City use their games in hand to their advantage? Will Liverpool’s confidence get them glory? Can Arsenal keep ploughing their way to the top? Can Chelsea stop making mistakes to make Jose’s comeback season a glorious one?
