11. Eugenie Le Sommer
One of the most clinical strikers in the world, Eugénie Le Sommer was at her best again in 2017 as her goals helped Lyon to the treble.
With 20 goals, Le Sommer shared top honours alongside team mate Ada Hegerberg for the 2016-17 season and has 11 goals already as Lyon once again sit top of the league again this season.
Le Sommer ended the Champions League campaign with six goals and a spot in the Squad of the Tournament, but was spared disappointment when she missed her spot kick in the final shootout against PSG.
It wasn’t quite so plain sailing for France, although the year did start with an impressive SheBelieves Cup win, Le Sommer scoring in a thumping 3-0 win against the USA.
Her late penalty against Iceland got France off to a positive Euro 2017 start, but that was as good as it got. Goals elsewhere in friendlies against Netherlands, Spain and Ghana ensured it’s been another productive year for Le Sommer.
Lucy Bronze, Lyon team mate says:
“Eugénie is just deadly, no other word for it. A centre of gravity likened to Messi and Aguero and footballing ability not too dissimilar either. The ball sticks to her feet like glue, literally just breezes past players. She can light up any game at any time.”
Corine Petit, Lyon team mate says:
“She is becoming one of the best forwards, she is really a striker now and she can play on the right or the left if the team needs her. She is really wonderful with her step, she is strong and can keep the ball and turn herself to go to the goal when she wants. She wants to win every time, when she loses she is really anxious.”
Sandrine Dusang, former France international says:
“Eugenie is a very complete player. With her speed, touch, technical quality, shots, sense of purpose and efficiency, Eugenie is capable of destabilizing a defense on her own. She is also able to play in different systems, up front or on the wing. It’s a real plus to have an attacker like her on her team.”
