43. Griedge Mbock
There’s no doubt Mbock has benefited from playing alongside a star like Wendie Renard for club and country but Mbock is now close to surpassing her esteemed team mate when it comes to performances. Perhaps she will never gain true recognition while Renard is around but Mbock at 24 is now already asserting herself as one of the world’s top defenders. Calm and composed on the ball, she doesn’t have the aerial dominance of Renard but she’s become a pivotal player for both Lyon and France in her own right. With all the talent in the world and not yet quite in her peak years, you can only wonder how much better Mbock will get and how much success she’ll enjoy in the future.
Jess Fishlock, former Lyon player:
“Her and Wendie are a joke, they’re so good together as a partnership and that’s what I love. Griedge has the potential to be the best in the world, I’ve no doubt about that. She’s learned from the best in Wendie, but at this point she’s with her. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a centre back be as a cool and calm, someone who deals with one on one battles like it’s a walk in the park. She’s strong, she’s technical and Griedge in my eyes could be the best in the world. Wendie took her under her wing and helped her a lot and they are really a formidable partnership.”
