Top 100 2019 Lynn Williams

Williams was only beaten for goals in the NWSL this season by Sam Kerr and her lack of international recognition was to the gain of North Carolina Courage this year. While the USA were winning gold in France, Williams scored in three consecutive league games for the Courage and followed that up with a spectacular hat-trick in a 6-0 win away at closest rivals Portland Thorns. A true finisher with pace and movement, Williams has always struggled to gain a true foothold in the USA squad but she’ll take plenty of confidence in 2020 from her recent call ups under new head coach Vlatko Andonovski. Her two goals in a 6-0 win over Costa Rica will certainly help and maybe 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics will be where the world really gets to see more of Williams.

Paul Riley, North Carolina Courage manager:

“Lynn is a tremendous athlete that has matured into a very good forward and goal scorer. A game changer with speed, directness and ability to force opponents to defend deeper. Amazing work ethic both sides of the ball. She provides the first phase of our press and she provides the spark for our attack. A consistent goal scorer and reliable team oriented footballer. Great 2019 and phenomenal future ahead.”
