INTERVIEW: Toni Duggan targets Women’s World Cup goals
Manchester City star Toni Duggan couldn’t help England find a crucial goal against France off the bench last week, but she was one of the side’s better performers as the team drastically improved against Mexico at the weekend.
Duggan was given her first World Cup start in a flexible and fluent front three alongside Fran Kirby and Eniola Aluko. Whilst Kirby grabbed the headlines, Duggan worked tirelessly up front, making good runs and affecting England’s play in a positive manner.
But, a World Cup goal continues to elude her. Whilst it would be harsh for her to be dropped against Colombia after the attacking trio linked so well against Mexico, Duggan says she is just concentrating on making sure her and her teammates get a result that ensures qualification for the second round, potentially against the likes of Norway or Spain, depending on other results.
