After Women’s World Cup heartbreak at the hands of Japan four years ago, the USA have the chance to put things right on Sunday evening by beating the same opponents in the 2015 final.
The US hit top gear against Germany in the semi-final and are going into the match as the form team. Japan haven’t looked quite the same side as they did four years ago and were lucky to come through their own semi-final against England on Wednesday.
Speaking before that match, midfielder Heather O’Reilly claimed the squad had no preference as to who they faced, whilst more recently the outgoing Abby Wambach and semi-final hero Carli Lloyd said the US would have to be at their best to beat Japan on Sunday.
