Weekend Bets: Watford to hold Liverpool, a goal fest at the Emirates and Atleti continue their title push

After another round of unpredictable results in the Premier League, it’s once again time to find the best bets for the weekend. Kurt Bristoll delves into the Premier League, Championship and La Liga to help you out.

Newcastle vs. Aston Villa – Newcastle to win

After a miserable start to the season, it seems that Newcastle United are finally gaining some momentum and form. With three wins in their last five games, they have managed to climb out of the relegation zone into 15th place, one place above reigning champions Chelsea. Aston Villa, however, have not been so lucky, having started the season badly and continuing that way; after 16 games, they have just six points and are already eight points adrift of 17th place. With Newcastle having beaten Liverpool and Tottenham in their previous two games, I think we can expect them to beat an Aston Villa side that haven’t won since the first game of the season.

Watford vs. Liverpool – Watford Draw No Bet

Watford take on Liverpool on Sunday and will go into the game with great confidence and belief following their recent form; they are currently the most in-form team in the league having won their previous three games. Liverpool find themselves one point below Watford after 16 games, which no-one would have predicted in the run-up to Christmas, but Liverpool’s good form, of course, has been halted after their loss to Newcastle and then draw with West Brom. With Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney continuing to find the net, and with the home crowd roaring them on, I can see Watford getting a positive result in this one.

Malaga vs. Atletico Madrid – Atletico Madrid to win

Whilst most of the talk regarding the La Liga is about Barcelona and Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid have quietly gone about their business this season and have been brilliant. They have only conceded seven goals in 15 matches this season, and are second in the league, only behind Barcelona on goal difference. Malaga, meanwhile, have only one win in their last five matches and are currently 16th in the league. Atletico are on an eight-game winning streak in all competitions, and will surely make it nine this weekend.

Nottingham Forest vs MK Dons – Nottingham Forest to win

Neither of these sides will be very happy with their current positions in the league; Forest currently sit in 15th whereas MK Dons are 20th. Fortunately for Forest, they seem to have found some form, and if it continues, they could make a play for the play-offs, while Milton Keynes will just be hopeful of picking up enough points to avoid the drop to League 1. Forest are looking very comfortable when playing at home, having drawn two and won three in their last five games. MK Dons, on the other hand, have only one point in their last five away games, and I can’t see them picking up any more here.

Arsenal vs Man City – Over 2.5 goals

Second-placed Arsenal host third-placed Manchester City on Monday night in a game that could have serious repercussions in the hunt for the Premier League title. With Leicester beating Chelsea last Monday, it looks as though they are now being taken seriously in the race for the title, so both teams will be going all out for the win in this one. With this match being too close to call, I feel the safest bet is to bet on goals. In Arsenal’s last five games, there has been a total of 14 goals – an average of 2.8 goals per game – while there has been a total of 20 goals in City’s last five games, an average of 4 goals per game. Last season, this fixture ended up a 2-2 draw, and I feel a similar scoreline could be seen at the Emirates on Monday.
