With the first round of fixtures of 2016 upon us it’s time for Kurt Bristoll to look at the best bets for the weekend that can hopefully help you have a profitable new year…
Arsenal vs Newcastle – Arsenal -1 Handicap
The Gunners are having a solid season so far, they are in contention for top spot in the Premier League and have a great chance of finally reclaiming the title, if they continue to perform the way they have been. Newcastle find themselves at the other end of the table, in the relegation places and struggling for points. Arsenal have won their last four matches at home in all competitions and have won by at least a two goals margin in three of those whereas Newcastle have failed to score in their last two games. Last season this fixture ended 4-1 to Arsenal and a similar scoreline would not be a shock at The Emirates.

Manchester United vs Swansea – Both Teams To Score No
This match brings together two teams that started the season well but have since faded and are trying to recapture that earlier form. With both teams struggling to find the net this season it seems a safe bet that both teams will not score in this one, it seems unlikely that even one team will score! Three of United’s last five games at Old Trafford have finished 0-0 and Swansea have scored only three goals in their last five away games, so don’t expect a goal-fest in this match.

West Brom vs Stoke – Stoke to win
After their win against Everton on Monday, Stoke now find themselves with 29 points, just six points off a top four position. West Brom will be fairly happy with their position in mid-table but know that in this uncertain league they need to be consistent and need to string results together. Stoke have won three of their last five games, beating Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton. West Brom scraped a 1-0 win against Newcastle on Monday, their only win in their last five games. Stoke were very impressive in their wins over Everton and Manchester United and with Arnautovic, Shaqiri and Bojan all hitting form at the same time it looks as though Stoke could make it three wins in a row here,

Charlton vs Nottingham Forest – Nottingham Forest to win
After a hard-fought draw away to Cardiff on Tuesday night, Nottingham Forest have now made it seven games unbeaten in the Championship and are now looking up at the Play-off positions with an outside chance of making it come the end of the season. Charlton’s 2-0 home defeat to Wolves on Monday stretched their run of games without a win to eight. They are now 23rd in the Championship and are facing an uphill struggle to survive. Forest have drawn their last two games and need to start turning those into wins, which I believe they will do at The Valley.

Malaga vs Celta Vigo – Celta Vigo to win
La Liga makes its return this week after their winter break and the late game on Saturday sees Malaga take on Celta Vigo. Celta Vigo have surprised most this season and are in a great position to secure a Champions League spot next season as they sit in 4th place in the league. Malaga are not having such a great season, they are just three points outside the relegation places and have scored only 10 goals in 16 games this season. Celta Vigo had won four out of their last five matches before the break and I expect their impressive form to continue in this one.
