Betting Tips: Liverpool and Manchester United draw, Arsenal come unstuck at Stoke (again)

With the FA Cup now out of the way for a couple of weeks, it’s time to focus on the best bets in the leagues. Kurt Bristoll selects his pick of the odds for the weekend.

West Ham v Newcastle – West Ham to win

Relegation candidates Newcastle take on sixth placed West Ham on Saturday as they look to put an end to their losing run. Newcastle have started to spend some money on the likes of Henri Saviet and Jonjo Shelvey as they attempt to retain their place in the Premier League. Unfortunately I don’t feel it will be enough to stop this impressive West Ham team: Newcastle have lost their last four games whereas West Ham are unbeaten in five and have won their last three. With Dimitri Payet and Andy Carroll back to full fitness this could be another long afternoon for Newcastle.

Ipswich v Preston – Ipswich to win

Ipswich currently occupy the final play-off position in the Championship and will be hopeful they can still be there come the end of the season. On Saturday they host recently promoted Preston who will be happy with their current position as they sit mid-table in 15th place. Ipswich go into this match unbeaten in their last four, with two draws and two impressive wins against QPR and Brighton. Although Preston recently managed a couple of greats wins against Hull and Rotherham, they have lost their last three away games and Ipswich will be looking to make it four here.

Liverpool v Manchester United – Draw

Both of these sides have been very hit and miss this season and overall have failed to impress. Neither side seem to be able to find a good run of form or momentum and yet both still have a strong chance of making the Champions League next season by securing a top four spot. In this season’s previous meeting Manchester United won a great game, probably the only exciting game at Old Trafford all season, when Benteke scored a great goal and Anthony Martial introduced himself to the world. I can’t see this game having the same outcome: neither side will want to be beaten by their biggest rival and with Liverpool suffering from injuries and Van Gaal’s defensive mind-set I can see this ending as a draw.

Best price: 12/5 with Betfred.

Caen v Marseille – Marseille to win

Caen have surprised a lot of people with the way they started this season and over halfway through the campaign they are fifth in Ligue 1. Marseille did not have a great start to the season, but seem to be turning that around now as they are just four points off Caen. Caen have only one win at home in their last five and have lost their last three, while Marseille are unbeaten away from home in their

last five and have won four of those. I expect Marseille to take all three points here.

Stoke City v Arsenal – Stoke to win

Mid-table Stoke City host league leaders Arsenal on Sunday. Arsenal are in prime position to finally reclaim the league title, while a place in the Europa League is still up for grabs for Stoke. Arsenal’s home form this season has been fantastic, but away from home they have struggled: recently they have suffered a 4-0 defeat to Southampton, a 2-1 defeat to West Brom and a 1-1 draw with Norwich. Stoke have already beaten Manchester United and Man City at home and will be looking for another big win on Sunday.
