BEST XI: Seattle Reign and Scotland defender Rachel Corsie picks her strongest line-up
As part of our plans to expand our women’s football coverage, Seattle Reign and Scotland defender Rachel Corsie kicks off our new feature by choosing a Best XI made up of players she’s played with during her career.
It’s no surprise to see several of USA’s Women’s World Cup winning squad make the XI given Corsie’s career in America, but there is space for one current FA Women’s Super League player.
GK – Hope Solo
Has incredible natural ability and on top of that has a phenomenal attitude towards training. She is normally on the pitch before I arrive most days and almost always stays after to do even more. So much respect for Hope and privileged to play with her.
DR – Amy Turner
Really enjoyed playing with ‘Tina’ at Notts County. Loves a tackle and a very committed, brave and aggressive defender.
DC – Rachel Corsie!
DC – Lauren Barnes
I love playing alongside Lu. I learned so much from her and really looking forward to being back in Seattle with her for the 2016 NWSL season. She is very calm and comfortable on the ball and her vision and ability to read the game makes her someone I look up.
DL – Steph Cox
Incredible left foot and one of the most composed and professional players I have played with. She also has built herself a great reputation for celebrating team goals on her own like a ballerina.
CM – Jess Fishlock
She makes my job easier! Deservedly considered one of the best midfielders in the NWSL as well as also being highly recognised in some of the top leagues around the World. Also, has been known to pop up at the right time to get on the scoresheet.
CM – Kim Little
Glad I get to play on the same team as Kim, as not many defenders come out on top against her. Arguably one of the most technical players in the Women’s game, she torments back lines and goes past players for fun. Lucky to get to work with her on a daily basis.
RM – Lisa Evans
Lisa is a fast and explosive player that has a very direct style. Having played together at Glasgow City and currently the Scotland national team she is a huge threat from either the left or right wing.
CAM – Beverly Yanez
Not a bad word to say about Bev! She is another very technical player and offers a lot of creativity and attacking threat. Combined with Jess and Kim I think makes for an incredible midfield trio. Her goal scoring ability last season made her invaluable.
LM – Megan Rapinoe
Pinoe is someone who I try and avoid playing against in training. Her ability to turn players inside out and her end product in the final third makes her one of the best players in the World. Cutting in off the left onto her right foot is something that works incredibly effectively.
ST – Julie Fleeting
A classic penalty box striker. Her goal scoring record speaks for itself and makes her a certainty in my XI.
