Deadline Day: From Alexis Sanchez to Diego Costa, who could be signing before transfer window shuts?

With hours to go before the summer transfer window closes, Michelle Owen takes a look at some of the possible ins and outs for Premier League clubs.

I cannot read the words Deadline Day without saying it in Sky Sports News presenter Jim White’s voice! It is the final day for clubs to get deals across the line.

I’ve taken a look at the Premier League clubs to see who could be coming and going, and other rumours that could come to a head…

Arsenal

Arsenal were on the receiving end of a thrashing from Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, and it seems they are crying out for another centre-back. Shkodran Mustafi could be leaving for Inter Milan. Could Arsenal swoop for Virgil van Dijk? Despite being linked with Liverpool all summer, could the defender end up at the Emirates?
The main talking point is around the future of Alexis Sanchez, it has rumbled on all summer coming to a head last weekend as he slumped on the bench after being substituted – Manchester City want him but have not met the asking price as yet…

Liverpool have agreed a fee for midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, after a a move to Chelsea failed to materialise.

AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth have been linked with Leicester City’s Demarai Gray, after they had a £20m bid rejected last month but could they up the offer on Deadline Day? There has also been good news this week with Josh King putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the Cherries.

Brighton

I covered them a few times last season for Soccer Saturday. Goals were never a problem with plenty of players chipping in but since their Premier League inception, they’ve been impossible to find – it looks like another striker is a must.

Brighton were linked with Cardiff City striker Kenneth Zohore but failed to meet his valuation. At Cardiff boss Neil Warnock’s press conference that I attended on Friday, he declared Zohore would only go for £30m! Perhaps a loan striker from a bigger Premier League club could be an option…

Burnley

Burnley’s new signing Chris Wood has already made his mark by scoring at the weekend against Spurs, but manager Sean Dyche is still in the market for another striker.

The Clarets have been linked with Lorient striker Abdul Majeed Waris, they made a £8m bid for the 25-year-old striker but this was rejected. They could up this offer to get the deal over the line.

Chelsea

Chelsea have shipped out so many promising youngsters, look how Nathaniel Chalobah is flying at Watford.

Danny Drinkwater has handed in a transfer request at Leicester and Chelsea want him to bolster their squad, but they need to meet Leicester’s valuation.

What about Diego Costa? His relationship with Antonio Conte looks untenable, he is desperate to return to Atletico Madrid but the situation seems to be a stalemate.

Crystal Palace

Palace haven’t had the best start to the season under Frank De Boer, and need a centre- back, it looks like they have been priced out of a Mamadou Sakho deal, we will have to see if they can get anyone else in before the window shuts.

Everton

Everton need a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, yes Wayne Rooney is doing brilliantly but they need another option. They are also interested in Cardiff City man Kenneth Zohore, and may have the cash to make a move happen. However Zohore is unproven at this level. He really came into his own after Warnock took over at Cardiff, could Ronald Koeman also get the best out of him?

Will Ross Barkley leave? He has reportedly talked of his interest in moving to a London club – but which one?

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield have done some great business, David Wagner is doing an amazing job at the club. Aaron Mooy moved permanently this summer from Manchester City and Tom Ince is an excellent addition.

It looks like Nahki Wells could be on his way out, with Burnley in advanced talks to sign the striker.

Leicester City

Could it be a day of departures for Leicester? Riyad Mahrez wants to go; I have read rumours Manchester United are looking to make a last-gasp bid for the winger.

Danny Drinkwater also handed in a transfer request but Chelsea will need to pay more for him if he is to leave now.

Liverpool

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. However if a deal is completed, what will it mean for the potential signing of Monaco man Thomas Lemar?

How can we not mention Philippe Coutinho? It looked likely he would go to Barcelona after Neymar departed but Liverpool have insisted he is not for sale.

Manchester City

City are targeting Alexis Sanchez and Jonny Evans. Evans has been excellent for West Brom and is club captain, but City will need to up their offers to bring him and Sanchez in.

Manchester United

Gareth Bale – could it happen? Very, very, very doubtful! He is happy at Real Madrid despite rumours circulating about his future.

Another winger they may be interested in is Riyad Mahrez. Manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly registered a late interest in the Leicester man.

Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic was heavily linked with United earlier in summer but is staying put.

Newcastle United

Dwight Gayle could leave the club if they can find a replacement, and they have reportedly asked about Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun who scored 24 goals last season. Rafa Benitez is a fantastic manager, but can he get the players he wants to make Newcastle play how we liked in the Premier League?

Southampton

One Southampton player has made many of the headlines over the transfer window, Virgil van Dijk. Van Dijk has been training away from his team-mates and been linked with Liverpool all summer yet nothing has come to fruition. With hours left, can this deal finally get over the line?

Stoke City

Kevin Wimmer has signed for Stoke after being linked with various clubs as he moved from Tottenham. What about a move for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph? Delph is said to favour a loan move rather than a permanent switch…

Swansea City

It felt like the Gylfi Siggurdson move saga went on forever! He finally signed for Everton leaving a huge hole in the Swans’ midfield. Boss Paul Clement is reportedly interested in West Brom’s Nacer Chadli. There have also been rumours Wilfred Bony could return to the Liberty Stadium – they could certainly use some more strike power.

And it looks increasingly likely that Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches – the Portuguese attacking midfielder – could come in on loan and is highly rated, he worked with Paul Clement during his time at Bayern.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs had been quiet with incomings during the window, before bringing in Juan Foyth from Estudiantes and Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton in the last week. They are also close to the signing of Ivory Coast full-back Serge Aurier, 24, from Paris Saint-Germain.

There have been links with Everton midfielder Ross Barkley all summer, will this materialise?

TWITTER LONG

Watford

Troy Deeney could be on his way out of Watford, and West Brom have been interested in the striker.

West Brom

The Baggies have signed Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal, and if Johnny Evans does leave on Deadline Day, do they have a replacement lined up?

What about Nacer Chadli?  He has fallen out of favour with boss Tony Pulis so could he be on his way to Swansea?

West Ham United

Slaven Bilic is not enjoying the new season so far, and although it has barely began the dire start already has some fans calling for his head.

The Hammers are linked with a move for Alexandre Mlinde – not heard of him? Don’t worry you won’t be the only one. The 17-year-old striker plays for AS Minguettes, a small club in the suburbs of Lyon. He scored 21 goals in 22 games last season, and has caught the eye of the East London club.

It looks like it could be a frantic Deadline Day. Managers such as Paul Clement have commented on how disruptive it can be to have business still going on as the season has begun, but it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon.

Players on international duty could add further complications, but one thing is for sure… if some of the above rumours develop, this will be a Deadline Day to remember!
