59. Lina Magull

Another player playing for a side trying to challenge the big names in the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg’s fourth place finish was largely down to the attacking combination between Magull and Hasret Kayikci.

Magull’s 11 goals left her only behind her own team mate and Vivianne Miedema and Mandy Islacker on the scoring charts, but Magull struggled to get minutes for Germany at Euro 2017.

However, Magull has returned to her club in top form and SC Freiburg currently sit within the Champions League spots in Bundesliga, a point ahead of Bayern Munich.

Magull is second only to Pernille Harder in the race for the golden boot and there’s surely plenty more to come from the 23-year-old.

Sophie Lawson, European women’s football writer says:

“One of the most gifted midfielders playing in Germany right now is 23-year-old Lina Magull, the Frauen-Bundesliga mainstay finally having broken into a first team and getting better every game. Struggling for minutes at a start-studded VfL Wolfsburg team, Magull opted to go out on loan to SC Freiburg before making the permanent switch last season, the air in Baden-Württemberg clearly agreeing with her.

“Arguably the most important player at Freiburg since her move, Magull is the player who ties everything together in midfield, receiving the ball from the defence before bombing forward and either creating a goal for herself or setting up the likes of Hasret Kayikçi or Giulia Gwinn. With an experienced eye for goal, Magull plays beyond her years and is the player to tip the scales in favour of whichever team she plays for.”

Adam Barlow, European women’s football writer says:

“Freiburg have been one of the most entertaining side through 2017 in Germany and Lina Magull is a big part of that. Her attacking intent from midfield has saw her hit 10 goals in 16/17 and a further 6 this time around. All this plus her performances for the German national team has seen her gain the reputation as one of the best in her position in Europe.
