Top 100 2019 Sarah Bouhaddi

Unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper playing for one of the world’s top clubs once again makes the 100. Other goalkeepers dominated landscape in what was a great year for goalkeeping performances, but the experienced Bouhaddi remains an important part of the all-conquering Lyon side which once again won the Division 1 Feminine and the Champions League. Bouhaddi has her critics but there’s a reason she’s been a mainstay of a dominant Lyon side for so long and remained France’s number one during their home World Cup year. Her shot-stopping ability is up there with the best and while the risks she takes on the ball can sometimes get her into trouble, overall 2019 has been one of Bouhaddi’s more solid years.

Jess Fishlock, former Lyon player:

“Sarah for me is one of the best in the world. She wants to come out, she wants to play and wants to get involved which I think is great in one aspect because she organises very well but it does bring moments where she wants to be involved too much and makes a mistake. What I will say about Sarah is she trains at a really high level, some players you do not realise how good they are until you train with them every day and there are times with Sarah where she saves Lyon games and she did that last season. She gets a little bit of stick and she gets that reputation but I think the good she does really overshadows the bad decisions she makes every now and again.”
